And the voters here have taken it to heart that their corporator Madhu Singh, sister of Hazratganj strongman Nagendra Singh Chauhan, is rarely seen in the ward.

Some say they haven’t seen her since last elections. Therefore, the ward doesn’t get more than six out of ten. Encroachments, poor water and power supply, unclean drains, choked sewer and poor security top their concern-list.

Hazratganj ward boasts of being the best market in the city. With Saharaganj, the area has become more prestigious for political parties and the common man alike.

“I have never seen the corporator in last five years. Yes, her brother is seen regularly in the locality. The space in front of my house has been encroached by ‘parking boy’. I objected to it. But, he is still there. My voice is buried in LMC files,” complains Naveen Kumar.

Anil Sinha says, “Water supply is very poor. We get water for two hours in a day. Water-logging is also a problem here. It is caused due to choked drainage system.”

M Wahid says, “I don’t know who the corporator is. But yes, her brother is regular seen in the area, he takes care of her work so I have no complaint. But I would like her to solve the problem of water scarcity and choked sewer in areas of Beldari lane, Sikandar Nagar, Moti Mahal.”

Replying to the charges, corporator of ward Madhu Singh says, “ What’s wrong if my brother looks after my work in the area? He works as my representative.” On the question of development in ward, she says, “I have done whatever I can, I have laid down sewer lines all over the ward. Now every colony in my ward has water lines. In my tenure, Hazratganj market has developed into the best market of the city.”
