There was a heavy exchange of fire between insurgents and security personnel in Manipur's interior district of Ukhrul bordering Myanmar, official sources said on Sunday.

The encounter which lasted for some hours took place between insurgents and personnel of 12th Assam Rifles battalion at Khulen area in the district yesterday.

No casualty was, however, reported, the sources said.
