TORRENTIAL RAIN for around 20 hours hit normal life in the city on Thursday. While people remained confined to their homes, rainwater entered many shops at Mahewa market. Traders and labourers were the worst affected by the rain.

The rain that started late last night, continued till Thursday late afternoon. Schools and colleges remained closed on Thursday due to continuous heavy rain and traffic movement was also affected.
The second spell of rain once again exposed the tall claims of the municipal corporation officials who had made no proper arrangements to drain out the water.
The overflowing drainage water and filth entered the shops and houses in low-lying areas. Though corporation officials had identified 30 places prone to water logging, it failed to install pumping sets at several places, which only added to the residents’ problems.
The filth and rainwater flowing in the wholesale vegetable market of Mahewa caused serious resentment among the traders. They alleged that officials did not pay any attention to their problems despite their repeated reminders.
Rainwater also entered many houses in Nathmalpur, Rasoolpur and Zahidabad localities. Water-logging at Shastri Nagar, Rustampur, Betiahata Hanuman temple, Dhamrshala Bazar, Chhote Qazipur, Indira Nagar and Azad Chowk localities created problem in traffic movement.
