Heavy rain, lashing the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh since two days, has thrown normal life out of gear by disrupting road and air traffic.

Kakinada, Rajahmundry and Amalapuram have recorded heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours. Road traffic was disrupted in some mandals of the district as roads were submerged due to logging of rainwater.

Rajahmundry also experienced heavy rains since two days. Many roads were blocked and several low-lying areas are submerged in water. Shifting of people in the low-lying areas to safer places was on.

Nine mandals of Agency Area of Rampachodavaram received heavy rains. The district administration has taken steps for evacuation of people living in the agency areas to safer places as flood water entering into their homes.

Donkarai reservoir in the agency area has received heavy flood water due to heavy rains in catchment areas. The officials lifted all crush gates and the water is entering into the neighbouring Khammam district.

Reservoirs, streams and canals in the district are overflowing, officials said. Yeluru reservoir, Pithapuram branch canals are overflowing. Several precautionary measures have been taken in view of the prevailing situation in the district.
