The weather office said heavy rainfall was recorded in the western suburbs with Santa Cruz observatory recording 54.5 mm in the last 24 hours till 8:30 am.

Moderate rains or showers were predicted for the day, they said.

However, train services on the Central, Harbour and Western lines were functioning normally, railways sources said.

Waterlogging was reported from both western and central Mumbai, affecting road traffic near Hind Mata, Parel, and dockyard road, traffic police sources said.

Vehicular movement was also affected due to presence of several trucks ferrying a large number of youths from one area to another to take part in the popular ritual of 'dahi handi breaking' on the occasion of Janmashtami, they added.
