CITIZENS OF the State are experiencing quite a wet week, with rains continuing from the last six days. More is expected with the Met office issuing warning of heavy rains during the next 24 hours in isolated places across the State.
Director of Regional Meteorological Centre Dr D P Dubey said that a low-pressure area is present over Sagar, Guna and Gwalior divisions and is moving in northwest direction towards Rajasthan. Under its impact, the State would receive good rainfall for another 48 hours, following which though the intensity of rains might go down, it would continue. Western MP is expected to receive heavier showers compared to other parts of the State.
The Met office said that rains would be recorded in all places of Bhopal, Indore, Hoshangabad, Gwalior, Chambal and Ujjain divisions and in many places in the other divisions.
Heavy rains are being recorded across the State from the last few days and the Capital also has received good rains, with moderate rains continuing for the last two days. Through the entire Saturday and the night intervening Friday and Saturday, the Capital received moderately heavy rains for almost entire time, though there was a break for few hours in the afternoon.
In 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Saturday, the Capital recorded 33.1 mm of rains while Bairagarh recorded 28.8 mm. From 8.30 am till 5.30 pm on Saturday city recorded 10.6 mms while Bairagarh recorded 4.8 mm of rains.
However, the city is still facing quite a shortfall of rains. The total rains recorded in the City until July 22 is 260.7 mm that is 146 mm lesser than the normal expected till this date.

Upper Lake water level goes up
THE WATER level in the Upper Lake has further gone up after two days of sporadic rains in the City. On the other hand, the water level at Kolar Dam, the largest source of drinking water for Bhopal, is yet to record an increase in its water level.
The water level of the Upper Lake has recorded a five-inch increase during the past two days, going up to 1956 feet from 1655.75 feet on Friday.
BMC officials said there was sufficient water storage for drinking water supply during the next four months. So, there was no problem of water availability at the Upper Lake.
However, the situation at Kolar Dam could be considered grim as the water level there was yet to go up. The water level at Kolar Dam was recorded at 440.94 meters today and it was 440.95 meters on Friday.
There is about 23 million cubic meter (mcm) live storage at Kolar that is adequate for four-month drinking water supply to Bhopal. Officials are hoping that water levels at Kolar will stop receding and record a hike within the next couple of days.
