Heavy rains in South and Central Gujarat has inundated many low lying areas in Valsad district forcing the administration to evacuate people from there.

Heavy rains in South and Central Gujarat has inundated many low lying areas in Valsad district forcing the administration to evacuate people from there.

The Avranga river in Valsad district is flowing above the danger level leading to water-logging in Hanuman Bhagd, Lilapar and other low lying areas, district officials said on Tuesday.

According to District Collector RB Dave, about 813 people have been evacuated from these areas in the last two days and moved to safer places.

Besides, all school and colleges in Valsad have been closed down for a day as a precautionary measure, Dave said.

Accor district recieved 230 mm,327, 245 and 207 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, one person was killed and another injured when a tree fell on an autorickshaw in the district's Vapi town yesterday, police said todaoti Danti area, district officials said, adding the death may have occured due to drowning in flood waters.

Heavy rains also continued to lash Ahmedabad and Rajkot district in Saurashtra.
