Patrol party noticed some suspicious movements at about 4 am near Bohar Wadala check post fence from Pakistan side, Deputy Inspector General of police (DIG) Gurdaspur S S Chatrath told reporters.

The security force immediately started search operation and saw two Pakistani smugglers pushing the consignment into Indian side, the DIG said adding our soldiers fired two shots forcing them to flee.

19.750 kg contraband was stuffed in 19 packets.

"One China made pistol, two magazines and 20 rounds were also found in the consignment," Chatrath said.

"The contraband was found near 25 meters from zero line from international border and because of huge elephant grass culprits absconded. Nobody had come to collect the consignment," he added.

Today's catch was the second major achievement by the BSF jawans to seize contraband.

Chatrath said earlier on April 19 after unprovoked firing, four rockets were fired by Pakistani rangers in Simbal Post. Two militants were killed during encounter on 24 April in village Ratarwan by the BSF.
