Even as the rape-cum-murder convict Dhananjoy Chatterjee was given a two-day reprieve by the Supreme Court, the students and teachers of the victim's school today prayed for her and demanded exemplary punishment for the crime.
The teachers and students of the Welland Godlsmith School in central Kolkata held a prayer meeting on Friday morning for the 'soul of Hetal Parekh', the 14-year old former student of the school who was victim of Chatterjee in 1990.
Speaking after the prayer meeting the school's principal Gillian Rosemary D'Costa Hart said the students and teachers are 'shocked and dissapointed' at the stay on hanging of Chatterjee scheduled for this morning.
"It was a brutal and pre-meditated crime and there should be exemplary punishment in this case", she said.
She further said, "those who are speaking about the family members of Chatterjee now, have they thought about the family members of Hetal, who was so brutally killed?"
"My only appeal is that a decision in the matter should be taken after considering all aspects under which the crime was committed", she said.
Some friends of Hetal also participated in the prayer meeting and expressed similar sentiments.
