High alert sounded after blasts: Patil

A high alert has been sounded across the country in the wake of the six serial blasts in different parts of Uttar Pradesh on Friday.

A high alert has been sounded across the country in the wake of the six serial blasts in different parts of Uttar Pradesh on Friday, Home Minister Shivraj Patil told the Lok Sabha.

Quoting prelimnary reports, he said two persons were killed and 15 others injured in two high intensity blasts in court premises in Faizabad at 1325 hrs.

Three high intensity blasts rocked the court premises in Varanasi between 1318 hrs and 1320 hrs in which one person was reported to have died and 10 people were injured, Patil told the House.

He said a low intensity blast occurred at 1305 hrs in a cycle stand in the court premises in Lucknow where no casualty was reported.

Patil made the statement in the Lok Sabha after demands from the Leader of the Opposition LK Advani.

The minister said there was no information about the involvement of any group in the blasts.

The affected areas have been cordoned and bomb detection squad were conducting thorough searches, Patil said.
