A five-tiered security ring has been put in place in Chennai for President APJ Abdul Kalam, who is arriving on Sunday night on a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu.
Kalam, who is scheduled to take part on Monday in five programmes in the city and another at Ambur near Vellore, 140 kms from Chennai, will be guarded by some 5,000 police personnel, Joint Commissioner of Police M Ravi told.
"We have ensured that no one can penetrate through the five-tiered security system and reach the President," Ravi said.
Modern gadgets like landmine detectors and jammers to prevent the use of remote-controlled explosive devices will be used to provide protection to the President.
A bomb detection squad and sniffer dogs are being used to scan all routes to be used by the Presidential motorcade.
