Governor N N Vohra, who is personally monitoring the "sanitisation" of the highway to ensure uninterrupted traffic, was told that it was open and traffic was moving smoothly in all sectors, an official spokesman said.

The team comprising Advisor to Governor, S S Bleoria, Chief Secretary S S Kapur, Principal Secretary Home Anil Goswami and Director General of Police Kuldeep Khuda apprised the Governor of the improvement in traffic.

Considering sporadic attempts of "unseemly elements" in Jammu and Kashmir regions to attack or delay trucks and tankers carrying supplies, Vohra directed the DGP to ensure that every district police chief provides effective arrangements for free traffic.

The convoys will move under escort with road opening parties (ROP). Each of them will be taken over by the next district superintendent of police, along the highway and handed over to successive district police authorities, till the vehicles cross the Jammu and Kashmir boundary.

The arrangement will cover the Highway from Baramulla to Lakhanpur.

In the past three days, till this morning, about 2,000 trucks had entered the state, of which 972 had arrived in the valley.
