Himachal: 11 killed as bus rolls down gorge in Theog

As many as five people died and around 20 reportedly sustained injuries when a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus rolled down into a gorge at Bajroli bridge, 55km from here.

As many as 11 people were killed while around 21 sustained injuries when a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus rolled down a gorge at Bajroli bridge near Deha village of Theog sub-division, 55 km from the state capital, on Saturday.

The bus bearing registration number HP 42-0958 was on its way from Shimla to Tharoch in Chopal when it met with an accident around 11:30 am.

Locals started the rescue operation following which police and district administration officials reached the spot.

Theog sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) MR Bhardwaj said four people died on the spot while others died on their way to hospital, including two who succumbed to their injuries at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla. As many as 21 people have been admitted to the Theog hospital and the IGMC.

Sonu, a survivor, said, I only remember the bus rolling down the gorge after a thud. I tried to locate my father but I could not see when the bus was rolling down,” he added.

Chief minister Virbhadra Singh visited the IGMC to enquire about the health of those injured in the mishap. He directed the doctors to take proper care of the patients and hoped for their speedy recovery.
