Himachal pass opens after eight months

The road at the mighty 4,500 m high Kunzam La pass, 400 km from Shimla, has been cleared of snow on Saturday.

A Himalayan pass connecting the twin valleys of Lahaul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh has finally been thrown open to traffic after being closed due to heavy snowfall almost eight months ago.

The road at the mighty 4,500 m high Kunzam La pass, some 400 km from Shimla, was cleared of snow on Saturday.

The public works department used snow cutters to clear the road, SK Attri, a government official, said Sunday.

The pass was closed in November. The area gets some of the heaviest snowfall in the state.
