INTERNATIONAL GENERAL secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Praveen Togadia claimed that Hindus were gradually regaining their strong position similar to 1990-92 in Uttar Pradesh.
Talking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Togadia said Hindu voters exercised their franchise to ensure victory of pro-Hindu candidates in the recently held civic poll. “Independent candidates and candidates of those parties who proved themselves to be pro-Hindu candidates had won the election”, he added.
Togadia criticised the Congress-led UPA government for announcing financial assistance of Rs 7 lakh each to the victims of minority community in Gujarat riots.
He termed this move of UPA government as part of its ‘Muslim appeasement policy’ in view of forthcoming Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh. “The Muslim appeasement policy will continue to haunt politics, until Muslim votes were not proved ‘irrelevant’,” he said.
Togadia categorically denied that Hindu vote bank would support Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “Hindus will support only those candidates who will favour Hindutva, he said.
Responding to a query, he said BJP, under the leadership of Rajnath Singh, was trying to come on the path of Hindutva but there were some ‘Jinnawadi forces’ in BJP.

{{/usCountry}}Earlier, speaking as chief guest in the workers’ meet of VHP, Togadia said representatives of one lakh villages would participate in the proposed third Vishwa Hindu Convention in Allahabad from February 11 to 13.
Noted industrialist Dinanath Jhunjhunwala presided over the workers’ meet whereas chief priest of Annapuran temple Rameshwar Puri and state president of VHP Surendra Rao also dwelt on the occasion.
