your profile. “Hiring people by visiting social networking sites is not a recent phenomenon,” says Ranjeet Singh Rhal, director, Futurz HR Solutions. “It’s just that it’s coming into the limelight now.”
Rhal explains that head hunters frequently visit social networking sites like Orkut and Facebook. Once online, they head to websites like the BMM community of Mumbai colleges. Here, they scout for job seekers. “Then depending on the job profile, we get in touch with the owner of the community and seek information about a particular person,” he explains.
So how do you ensure that your profile gets you hired? Freshers, especially those who have done media-related courses, can upload recent projects and create links on their profile. Also, put up your most recent project and restrict the number of links between three and five. Otherwise, it creates too much clutter on the page and can be a turn-off.

If advertising is your specialty, wackiness pays. Creativity in this field grabs attention. If you are inclined towards marketing, get bold and add comments to everything that is put up by you.

A piece of advice from D’Cruz: Don’t lie on your CV when you go for an interview after being short-listed by Orkut. More often than not, your CV will be verified with your Orkut profile. Also, background checks are done by going through scraps to ensure that there are no skeletons in he cupboard.
