Mohan Barot (35) proposed to a 19-year-old neighbour, a medical student, on Wednesday morning. When she refused, he allegedly assaulted her.

“Barot, an unemployed man, called up his neighbour on Valentine’s Day and expressed his love for her. But she declined,” said Police Inspector Sneha Giri, the investigating officer of the case.

When the woman was returning home from college in the evening, Barot stopped her and proposed to her again.

This time, the girl shouted at him, telling him not to harass her again.

Barot allegedly would not take no for an answer and grabbed her hand and refused to let go.

When the girl screamed for help, Barot got violent. Her father rushed to the spot when he heard his daughter scream.

They registered a police com plaint and Barot was arrested.

“We have arrested Barot on charges of harassing and misbehaving with the girl,” said Giri.
