“There is an opportunity for both of us, the BJP and the PDP. I see an opportunity to put an end to Kashmir’s uncertainty. I think it is a historic opportunity,” Sayeed told Hindustan Times in an interview.

Though he refused to share details of his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sayeed hinted at a comprehensive common minumum programme. “There are doubts in people’s minds right now. Let the common minimum programme come out. People will judge us on the contents,” he said.

The PDP had contested the assembly elections hoping to keep the BJP out of the state and now it’s joining hands with the saffron party is being seen a major shift, which has its cadre and leaders wary.

“The challenge remains to bridge the gap between regions of the state as there is no question of its trifurcation on regional or religious lines,” he said.

Sayeed is confident to see a new BJP in Kashmir. “The people of Delhi have already come out with a bold statement through the ballot in the recent assembly elections. The verdict cannot be ignored,” he said.

He said that improving the state’s economy would remain a priority area and he expected the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) to return power projects to the state.
