He was addressing the inaugural session of HIV/AIDS Physicians’ training workshop organised by the Indian Medical Association, Allahabad branch, in association with the Clinton Foundation and the NACO on Sunday.

Dr Anand said HIV had become the biggest challenge for health professionals. In the past few years, there were many changes in the management and treatment of HIV patients. Every practising physician should try to learn HIV management through the workshop, he said.

Guest of honour and superintendent-in-charge of Dufferin Women Hospital Dr Meenu Sagar said through proper awareness, clinicians could safely handle HIV patients.

District coordinator of the workshop Dr GS Sinha said it was on the initiative of the Clinton Foundation and the NACO that the Indian Medical Association had decided to train 1.5 lakh private practitioners in India in a year.

“The objective of the workshop is to train private doctors for proper management of HIV patients and motivate them to play a greater role in the fight against HIV/AIDS,” he said.

The AMA secretary proposed a vote of thanks. The other main speakers were Dr Manoj Mathur and Dr Sandeep Choudhary. About 50 doctors attended the workshop.
