The pre-poll model code of conduct demands that all non-essential policy announcements, advertisements and publicity campaigns be suspended from the time of announcement of the election dates till the day of polling.

In all, 1,750 hoardings, banners, posters and cutouts and a total of 91 flags belonging to various parties were removed on Tuesday. Nearly a dozen walls bearing political slogans were also whitewashed

“We regularly pull down illegal posters,” said Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Special) Rajendra Bhosle. “But following Monday’s announcement, we are now removing all political messages.”
