The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), on Friday, launched a drive to remove illegal hoardings that dot the Gurgaon Expressay. As part of the drive, the MCG removed dozens of iron frames and billboards on Friday and Saturday.
Some of the frames that have been pulled down were as high as 150 feet and earned the
owners crores of rupees in a year.
Most of the hoardings pulled down were those erected on private land and Haryana Urban Development Authority greenbelts along the Expressway.
The MCG officials said, eight hoardings erected on private land, in gross violations of Supreme Court orders, fetched the owners nearly Rs 3 crore a year.
Over the past few years, the advertisement mafia has flourished using political clout and pressure groups.
The latest drive was launched by MCG in collaboration with the HUDA and district administration.
Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Khullar said the offensive was launched against illegally-erected advertisement hoardings along the Gurgaon Expressway on Friday and Saturday.
“On Friday, we removed more than a dozen hoardings some which were more than 100 feet high. An iron advertisement frame stood almost 150 feet high near the Ambience Mall. Our squads dismantled these structures and the wreckage would be used for the construction of a Gaushala (cow shelter),” Khullar added.

{{/usCountry}}The drive began at 7 am on Friday and carried on till Saturday when the MCG demolition squad moved to the Sector Road meandering through the DLF Cybercity.
“In Cybercity, our men removed large banners erected on the iron frames which we plan to dismantle on Sunday. We are committed to make Gurgaon free of illegal hoardings,” Khullar said.
