Around 4.05 pm, someone called the police control room in Faridabad and threatened to bomb the Sector 16 market in 10 minutes.

The policeman who received the call informed his seniors. Senior police officers, including three Deputy Superintendents of Police, rushed to the market with dog squads and additional forces.

The market was immediately cordoned and vehicles checked. Shopkeepers downed their shutters and people fled to the safety of their homes. It took the police three hours to scan the entire market. "Nothing objectionable was found in the area," the police said.

On December 15, a similar bomb hoax — that time in the mini-secretariat in Sector 12 — had created panic in the area.

Wednesday's bomb hoax in Faridabad was the 11th one.

"We are in the process of tracing the caller who made the hoax call on Wednesday," a police officer said.
