Irate students shouted slogans and locked the Zoology Department when the department head Prof Pratima Gaur was not present. Students led by Sanjeev Rai went to meet the HoD to seek details of the funds used by the department.

Rai accused the HoD for misusing Rs 67 lakh given to the department under the Special Assistance Programme, FIST programme and the UGC. He said the HoD had no right to come to the department unless details of the expenses were submitted by her.

Rai accused the HoD for misusing the funds allocated to the department. He alleged the department head had carried out maintenance work by employing her own people and who were not authorised to do that work.

The students threatened to stage a protest if the university authorities fail to take immediate action.

Student leader Anand Singh demanded a CBI inquiry into the purchase of equipments by the department and termination of director of the SAP and FIST schemes. Singh threatened to go on a hunger strike if no action were taken by March 1.

Meanwhile, the head of the department Prof Pratima Gaur denied the charges framed on her in a Press release on Monday. Prof Gaur said allegations about violating rules and regulations were baseless as the department had no role in the payment of bills. The department had not purchased from any defaulter firm under her signatures as alleged. All orders had been placed only to firms duly approved by the university. All norms laid in the financial manual of the university were strictly adhered to by the department.
