The movie earned $24.9 million on Friday, distributor Warner Bros Pictures said. While Avatar earned $23.5 million the same day.

The eight-day total for director James Cameron’s costly 3-D extravaganza is now $160.8 million according to the film’s distributor, 20th Century Fox. Holmes beats Avatar
