Hi. I’m getting married in June and I want to visit Port Blair and Havelock Island for my honeymoon. Will June be the right time to visit the place? If yes, what are the tour packages available?

The Andaman Island is a splendid and peaceful location. The beaches are clear and clean, with no crowd. The weather is good between November and January and warm from February to May. The monsoon begins in June and lasts until September. But June is not the right time to go there because the rains might not allow you to reach some places on Havelock. The best time would be after October.

Havelock Island is a one-hour boat ride from the main land. As the monsoon is not a favourable period, it is advisable to stay in Port Blair. You have plenty of accommodation options to choose from such as Sinclairs Hotel — all of its rooms are sea-facing.

I visited Pelling in last December. It was the off-season so I did not book my tour in advance, but it is normally advisable to book in advance. Try to get a hotel in Upper Pelling as the view is great. I stayed at Hotel Phamrong. It is right infront of the fountain (Zero Point).

It is a little hard to get shared vehicles from NJP/ Siliguri that go to Pelling. I took a break in my journey. I think transport options from Gangtok are good. From Darjeeling, Pelling is about three hours by road. Although, I’m not sure about the bus service. You can opt for an exclusive taxi; which costs anywhere between Rs 1,200 and Rs 1,800 depending upon the season.

Sightseeing in Pelling is enjoyable. You can visit the Pemayangtse Monastery, Khechiperi Lake, Kachendzonga, Rabdantse Ruin and Sing shore Bridge. People say the Sing shore bridge is the second highest bridge in Asia.

The view of the valley from the bridge is breathtaking! And while you’re admiring the scenery, do not forget to eat the locally made momos.
