Honour first

With reference to Chaitanya Kalbag’s article Mai-baap re baap (July 5), the fact that so many people still want to join the civil services indicates that Indians still prefer prestige and honour to money.

It suggests that the desire to serve the nation is very much alive. One hopes that steps will be taken to insulate the services from politicians.
