Horse-borne smuggler uses sword on cops

The smuggler was carrying more than 10 kg opium, worth Rs 2.5 lakh, near Bhatkhedi village, in Ratlam.

In what seemed a scene straight out of a yesteryears Bollywood potboiler, a horse-riding smuggler injured two constables with a sword before the men in khaki arrested him for carrying more than 10 kg opium, worth Rs 2.5 lakh, near Bhatkhedi village, in Ratlam.

"Following a tip-off, Bhanwar Singh was surrounded yesterday. Constables Zakir Khan and Ramesh Chandra were hurt," Jaora's Sub-Divisional Officer (Police) Vipul Pande said on Sunday.

A case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and for attempt to murder.
