Prakash Chandra in Blowing in the wind (December 19), gives us good news. India need not worry about cutting greenhouse gas emissions at the cost of economic development. But India should ensure that the race for development does not damage its agricultural heritage that continues to be the backbone of our economy. Our forests need to be protected and taken care of as well.

The Bali meet has ended on a happy note. When the next meeting takes place in 2009, along with finetuning post-Kyoto Protocol steps on acceptable figures to limit pollution, it is necessary to discuss how to ‘green’ the lifestyles of the richer classes globally. The behaviour of the rich in developed nations is integral to making a ‘green’ impact.
