The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will allow on Saturday a discussion on revelations of payoffs made by former army chief Gen VK Singh.
The speaker, Mubarak Gul, on Friday informed the House during the Question Hour that he will allow a discussion on VK Singh's charges on October 5. The assembly had seen a major uproar on the issue during the first two days.
The motion moved by the National Conference (NC) wants the House to summon Gen VK Singh over his allegations that the army pays money to state politicians.
The NC has been demanding that Gen Singh should explain his statement in the House and name the politicians involved. Following demands by the House, the speaker assured that the former army chief will be summoned.
"I am studying the motion and I have the power to summon the General," Gul had informed the House.
In interviews to national news channels, General Singh had said money was being paid to most ministers in Jammu and Kashmir. Singh had said money is essential to stabilise the youth in the terror-struck area and to get them engaged in useful acts and it was given by the army for this purpose.
The admission by the combative former army chief about the army having paid money to J&K politicians, however, kicked off a furore, with politicians from various parties demanding answers from the General.
The admission came after an internal army inquiry, published by a Delhi-based newspaper recently, revealed that Singh had paid state minister Ghulam Hassan Mir `1.19 crore in 2010 to topple the Omar Abdullah government.
