Down memory lane
I come from a small town in Punjab and was reluctant to move to Mumbai initially, since professionally I was doing well back home. But I gradually realised that Mumbai is the city to be in if you intend to make it in the field of entertainment in this country.

When I first came to Mumbai, I stayed with a friend in Tarapore Garden in Oshiwara. But when you live at a place for sometime, you develop a certain affinity to it. So when I decided to buy a flat, I saw flats in different areas but my heart was set on Oshiwara. I showed the flats I had short-listed to my wife, but deep within I wished that she select this one (where they’re living currently).

Tarapore Garden is a residential area for the armymen. So the construction is very good. Earlier, only army officials used to stay here, but now they’ve also allowed civilians. All the flats are well ventilated and airy. They have a huge, well-maintained garden and a playground.

Freedom of movement
Children should be able to freely move around and be themselves in their house. My children play tennis and cricket at home and skate around all day and I didn’t want to curb that. As a child I have played a lot in my house and I didn’t want to deny that pleasure to my children.

Four walls of love
I believe in vaastav (reality), not Vaastu. Vaastu has gained popularity only recently. The houses we were born in were not built according to Vaastu. I don’t think Bill Gates has any clue about what Vaastu is. I think Vaastu makes people comfortable that their house is pure and there is no evil. I believe if there is love and happiness in the house, the walls and directions of the house don’t make any difference.
