For the residents of Sectors 3, 5 and 6, this summer will not be as difficult as the ones before. The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has replaced the 60 KW transformer with a 200 KW one. This will enable efficient functioning of the motors installed at the station and boost water supply till the end of the Sectors 3, 5 and 6.
Says Gyan Sharma, junior engineer, HUDA, "Due to short supply of electricity, the motor couldn't function efficiently here. Now we have installed a transformer costing Rs 3.5 lakh. However, the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) is yet to release the connection to the transformer. It can be made functional only after the connection."
The residents had been pursuing the matter since long but it was getting delayed. However, following the installation of the new transformer, residents have expressed their gratitude to Arun Dhankar, executive engineer, electricity, HUDA.
According to residents, in the past water could not be supplied evenly in the entire area as the boosting station could not function properly due to lack of electricity supply.
Shares Dinesh Kumar, vice president, Sectors 3, 5 and 6 residents' welfare association (RWA), "The transformer installed at the water works office was just 60 KW in capacity and was inadequate for the proper functioning of the three motors at the pumping station. With the passage of time, the population of these sectors increased but the authority did not improve the infrastructure accordingly. The problem of water shortage had been acute in Sectors 3 and 6 as these are located in the far end."
"Interestingly the authority gave the electricity connection to the nearby houses from this transformer of 60 KW. But whenever the load increased, the power supply tripped. As a result the motors stopped working. So ultimately the residents faced a lot of problems," adds Meenu Singh, president, RWA, Sector 3, 5 and 6.

{{/usCountry}}"In the last two years, the RWA had been constantly pursuing the authority for installing a new transformer of a larger capacity at the existing water works office. Also a request had been made for making separate arrangements for water supply in Sectors 3 and 6. In fact we had referred them the vacant HUDA land where the pumping station could be made. But we are happy that our persistent efforts have yielded result and finally some action is being taken," adds Lal Singh, a resident of Sector 5.
