Huge power cuts in Ghaziabad

Vast areas of Ghaziabad are facing a severe water and power crisis. While residents of some areas were reeling under power cuts for over 10-14 hours a day, trans-Hindon areas of Vaishali, Kaushambi, Indirapuram and Vasundhara were starved for water due to erratic supply of power to the Ganga water treatment plant at Pratap Vihar.

While residents of some areas were reeling under power cuts for over 10-14 hours a day, trans-Hindon areas of Vaishali, Kaushambi, Indirapuram and Vasundhara were starved for water due to erratic supply of power to the Ganga water treatment plant at Pratap Vihar.

UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) officials said the situation would continue till the end of the week as several 220 and 132 KV high-power transmission lines near Vaishali were under the process of being shifted from the Anand-Vihar – Vaishali Metro route.

Power supply to Ganga water treatment plant — which supplies water to trans-Hindon areas in Ghaziabad and various sectors in Noida — also affected for over 9-10 hours , UP Jal Nigam officials said.

"This situation is bad due to heavy power cuts. We have not been able to run the plant for hours and there is no alternative source," said V.K. Tayal, a senior UP Jal Nigam official at Pratap Vihar treatment plant.

"We are relying on borewell water and paying heavily for water-jars from private suppliers," said Kuldeep Saxena, coordinator Indirapuram RWA.
