The Border Security Force (BSF) and Custom officials in a joint raid seized a huge quantity of Phensedyl from a truck near Gakulnagar in West Tripura district, police said on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, the officials on Sunday stopped a truck and seized 21,000 bottles of Phensedyl worth Rs 15.54 lakh and 669 cartons of biscuits worth Rs 2.74 lakh. The total value of the seized items were Rs 18.28 lakh, they said.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Rajesh Dev (34) of Kamarup in Assam and co-driver, Sudeep Biswas (18) of Ambassa, in Tripura’s Dhalai District were arrested.
During interrogation, they revealed that the truck, loaded with Phensedyl was coming from Guwahati and was going to be delivered at Bishalgarh market, just five km away from the spot of raid.
