Three HUJI militants, including its self-styled supreme commander Dawood and an Army jawan were on Thursday killed in a fierce gunbattle between the extremists and security forces in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Dawood's wife Babli was caught alive by the troops during the encounter.
Operational parties of 11 and 26 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) assisted by local police launched a surgical operation in the dense forest area of Bela Chicha in Khankhu Dhar mountain ridge, 260-km from Jammu, late on Wednesday night, Superintendent of Police Kishtwar Haseeb Mughal told PTI.
A group of militants belonging to banned outfit of HUJI came initially into the contact of operational parties early
this morning, he said adding they were cordoned off and troops zeroed in on them and conducted a surgical strike after
militants fired at them.
In a fierce gunbattle three top commanders, including HUJI Supreme Commander and an Army jawan were killed, he said.
Six militants, including five top commanders of Harkat-ul-Jehad al-Islami (HUJI), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and
Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), were killed in three separate gunbattles in Kishtwar and Poonch districts of Jammu and
Kashmir during past 24 hours.
The Army jawan, who laid down his life, has been identified as Ravi Kant of 11 RR, Mughal said, adding that
HUJI Supreme Commander Feroz Ahmed Mengnu Code Dawood and two Deputy Commanders -- Nazir Ahamed Code Abdu Furqan and Mohammad Ishaq have been killed.
