Hundreds mourn doctor’s death in his home town

His body was flown to Srinagar in the afternoon on Thursday where the final rites were performed around 3.30pm.

Hussain, a resident of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, was working as an emergency medical officer at Apollo hospital. A resident of Nowlari village near Magam-Pattan, Abbas was only son of his parents.

When Hussain’s body reached Pattan in north Kashmir, the whole town went into mourning. Hundreds of people accompanied the body when it was taken to his village.

Such was the disbelief over his death among his family members that they refused to talk to media. Hussain’s father Syed Abdul Majeed is also a doctor and had served as block medical officer of Uri.

“It was as if the whole family has the hand of God. Whoever visited came back fit and fine. Arshad was such a noble soul. He was very down to earth. It is as if I have lost my own son,” said his neighbour Ghulam Hassan.

“My heart goes out to the parents and family of the budding medico who was on a life-saving mission and attending a critically-ill patient,” she added.
