“LET’S GO to zoo for food.” This is soon going to be the catchphrase among people as by March-end the zoo may have a foodcourt.
Sizzling Chinese, spicy samosas, filling dosas, everything will be available at a plaza contiguous with the counters of multiple-food vendors on self-service dining basis. The city zoo hits on this idea after considering over the long pending demand of its visitors who have been complaing about the non availanility of quality food stuff inside the zoo. Hence, the idea was mooted to establish a foodcourt.
The contract for the food court would be given to any reputed fast food centre and for that tender would be floated soon. Says zoo director Eva Sharma:
“Quality of the food is what we want to ensure. The contract for the food court would be given to one individual who would run the multiple food counters without making any compromise with the quality.”
She said: “Zoo would monitor that fresh vegetables and good edible oils are being used at the kitchen. We would have the full right to inspect the quality of the food at any spur of moment. This would help in ensuring the standard of the food. We expect that once this food court come into being it would become visitors friendly and would help in generating resources.”
Also the food court would have to adhere to some of the condititions. For instance that under no circumstances foods should not be served in polythene packets. In addition adequate numbers of dustbin should be kept at every here and there and it would be mandatory for the person running the food court to dispose off the rubbish on daily basis.

{{/usCountry}}“Already there exist few canteens that serves cold drinks and other beverages. In a bid to safeguard their business interest the new food counter would not be allowed to keep such things like cold drinks, etc at their counters. They would not be allowed to do any publicity work for any products other than what they would be serving,” the director said.
Above all, the problem of non- availability of water would be over as it would be essential for the food court owner to provide safe drinking water to all the customers. According to sources, if this idea materializes then vendors crowding outside city zoo would automatically wind up their shops and it would reduce the encroachment problem to a large extent.
Explains Sharma: “Our sole motive is to make city zoo visitor-friendly. Once the edible goods would be available inside the zoo, it would attract more visitors.
Hence it would help in generating sizable revenue. We’re keen to see what kind of respionse it would evoke from the people. All that we can say that they would be getting value for their money.”
