India lost the first Test but Farokh Engineer came to Trent Bridge in hope. He believed his former team would fight back, like they had on earlier occasions. But India lost the plot again and the former India stalwart's pride was pricked when the batting line-up crumbled like a pack of cards on the fourth afternoon.

"We have been outplayed in every department. Even Bangladesh put up a better fight here," said Engineer.

"We didn't look like an international side, let alone the world's No. 1 side. Ok, we lost Zaheer Khan, but you can't lose one player and say it's all over. We haven't shown any fighting spirit. We have come here with a hell of a reputation, but unfortunately we haven't produced goods on the field.

"That's why I am leaving early, there is only so much you can take, it is hurting. The Englishmen's leg is up," said Engineer, dejected at the abject surrender as he made his way out of the ground halfway into the second session, to take a train back home to Manchester.

Disappointing Dhoni
"I am disappointed. He seems to have gone down terribly from the last time I saw him. Their experts are ridiculing him. They are asking me what's wrong with him," said Engineer.

"The body language of the India players was not there. The 'keeper needs to buck up the side, but everyone had their heads down. People here are asking: What are these guys calling themselves as the No 1 side in the world, they are a joke or what?"

The result has also brought into focus on whether new coach Duncan Fletcher has the ability to lift India.

"What are these highly-paid coaches doing? The results are not showing. What is Fletcher doing? Just because Gary Kirsten recommends him, is that sufficient to get the job?"
