Additional District Judge (Fast Track), Madhumita Das in her order on Friday convicted Rajendra Lakra and sentenced him for life with a fine of Rs 15,000 for killing his wife Jasmita at village Alapada on August 27, 2005.

In the event of failure to pay the fine, he would undergo RI for one more year.

According to the prosecution, Rajendra, a labourer, returned home at around 10 pm and asked his wife to serve dinner. He was furious as Jasmita asked him to wait for a while as rice was being cooked.

He took a big piece of firewood and attacked her on the head. She fell down and became un-conscious. That did not stop Rajendra who continued to hit her causing her death.

The villagers gathered around and the ward member of the village Durjyodhan Nag informed the police.

Eleven year old daughter of Rajendra who witnessed the murder, narrated the incident in court along with eleven other witnesses.
