Hyderabad stalled as Telangana survey kicks off

People are moving in large numbers to their villages to register, while Telangana migrants are coming home for the same purpose. The purpose of the survey, brainchild of chief minister K Chandrasekhara Rao, is to keep in check the undeserving claimants of schemes like subsidised ration, scholarships, pensions, houses etc.

“If we can know the status of health, wealth and other details of every family then we can formulate our policies better,” Rao told officials gathered for the purpose a few days back.

The mammoth survey will be conducted simultaneously in all 10 districts of the state, including Hyderabad.

However, the exercise is making the Andhra settlers jittery. Many in Hyderabad are apprehensive that the survey might be used to ascertain their nativity and deny the state benefits, education opportunities, jobs.
