I don't interfere in AIIMS working: Ramadoss

Union Health Minister rejected the charge that he was interfering with the working the premier hospital.

Under attack from AIIMS doctors, Union Health Minister Ambumani Ramadoss on Thursday rejected the charge that he was interfering with the working the premier hospital.

He said his only interference was that he got a budget of Rs 500 crore for the institution and completed some of the projects pending for long.

Referring to AIIMS Director P Venugopal threat to resign from the post and his charge that there had been a systematic undermining of the institute for the last two years, the Minister said over phone from Chennai that "if anybody wants to resign, he is free to resign."

Earlier in the day, the AIIMS Faculty accused Ramadoss of "unduly and intentionally" undermining the prestige and dignity of the AIIMS and demanded his removal from the post of hospitals' President.

Ramadoss, for his part, alleged that for the last three years AIIMS administration had gone into a slumber and become ineffective.

Hitting out at critics of OBC quota in elite educational institutions, the Union Health Minister said "a few faculty members are instigating some people" at AIIMS to continue the anti-reservation stir.
