‘I had complained against Chandran on Feb 13’

It was only on February 12 — two days before navy radio operator RA Chandran (31) allegedly stabbed Anita Rawat (30) 14 times at her Navy Nagar home — that their spouses came to know about their illicit relationship, a police officer said, reports Rachna Pratihar.

Also, Anita, who had been re-thinking on pursuing the relationship further, had complained against Chandran to navy officials a day before the stabbing, her statement to the police says.

“As Chandran had been pestering me since a long time, in order to get rid of him, my husband, Charanpal Rawat, and I officially complained to the navy on February 13,” said Anita in her statement to Cuffe Parade police. “Following this, Chandran was warned by navy officials to mend his ways — otherwise he would face serious consequences.”

“But Chandran, who felt betrayed and as his job was under threat too, decided to kill Anita for ruining his life,” a police officer said.

Anita and Chandran had managed to keep their relationship under wraps and did not socialise in public places, the officer added. “They would only visit each other at their homes because of which news of their relationship did not spread in the neighbourhood.”
