Love came much later — says an obviously smitten Anurag Kashyap reacting to whether he fell for Kalki before or after casting her in Dev D. In fact, he had rejected her for the role at first because she had sent her modelling pictures, something that Kashyap confesses he’s not too fond of.

“I rejected her initially. I have a thing against models. They think that just because they have a beautiful face, they can act,” he says. So why isn’t he as open about their relationship as her? “She’s a lot younger to me... there’s a 10 year age gap.

I’m superstitious about things that are special in my life so I won’t talk about them,” he says. He does divulge though, that one of the reasons for casting her is “her ability to carry off the schoolgirl look.” Ask him what makes that look sell and he says, “It’s every Indian males fantasy I guess… an obsession with a young girl… that’s the hypocritical morality of this country we are attacking.”

And last but not the least — talking about the unabashed use of sex in marketing the movie, he says, “It’s all about sex and I make no apologies. The lustline we started got so many calls that it crashed!” As for who was the source of the most emosional atyachaar on the sets, he says, “Both Abhay [Deol] and Kalki!”
