Campaigning relentlessly for the past four months in the Gandhi bastion of Amethi, Aam Aadmi Party’s poet-turned-politician Kumar Vishwas is confident of pulling a coup.

Even though his illustrious Congress rival Rahul Gandhi had been hogging all the news space, Vishwas claims that he knows Amethi better than Rahul. “I challenge Rahul Gandhi does not know the names of the 17 blocks here. He will also not be able to reach here from Fursatganj airport. Let him identify even 100 people from across the constituency by name. I can do all this,” Vishwas told HT on Tuesday during a campaign trail in the constituency.

Defeating Rahul is necessary, Vishwas tells a group of villagers gathered around his cavalcade. “If he loses, the message will go to (UP CM) Akhilesh Yadav too… beware! Any common man can beat you in your game now!”

He says the Gandhis had been winning elections from Amethi only because the people here are not educated. “Also, the people didn’t have a choice. Both the BJP and SP were fielding weak candidates.”

The AAP leader said he is not worried about BJP’s Smriti Irani, who he claimed “was forced to fight from here”.
