Armed with information gathered through nation-wide surveys, the department has now asked BCCI to furnish details of the tax deductions made while making payments to all the players. Officials are also examining player remuneration details to find out if any payments were made through banks based out of tax havens such as Mauritius or British Virgin Islands and whether tax had been deducted at 11.33 per cent for each of the 32 foreign players.

All the teams put together are expected to pay out Rs 210 crore as salaries to their players and about Rs 40 crore to support staff.

“It needs to be seen whether the tax deducted at source matches the amount of salaries that the teams have public announced to its players,” said a source.
