INCOME TAX sleuths from Allahabad, Kanpur, Lucknow and Varanasi raided several business establishments and individual houses in the city here today and seized incriminating documents related to tax evasion.
The raids that began early in the morning, were expected to continue till late in the night. Teams involved in the raids were not ready to disclose their actual findings till their job was over.
The operation was reportedly kept a closely guarded secret from even those who had to conduct the raids.
They came to know about their destination at the 11th hour, said sources.
Simultaneous raids were conducted at the house of one Rajeev Maheshwari, a businessman dealing in cement on Patrika Marg, behind the Income-Tax building.
On Zero Road, raids were conducted on Chawla Motors, Chawla Mill stores, Chawla Machinery and at the residence of the proprietor. Certain documents were seized from here.
At Rajruppur, an I-T team conducted raid at the residence of a former principal of Allahabad Degree College, Sri Nath Agrawal, and Kundan guest house in Tagore Town.
