The Income Tax (I-T) department has resumed the e-filing of returns by taxpayers after having the security certificate of its website renewed. The department had suspended e-filing after Mint reported on May 17 that the security certificate had expired on May 8, exposing the website to potential hacking attacks.

“Taxpayers can now e-file their I-T returns without diffic-ulty,” the Central Board of Direct Taxes said on Wednesday.
A security certificate guarantees the authenticity of a website, ensuring all transactions are encrypted and secure. The lapse of the certificate made filing tax returns online risky, as it could compromise confidential information of tax assessees.
