I have driven in all the cities of the National Capital Region - Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida and Faridabad. However, my experience in Gurgaon has been nightmarish, thanks to the faulty design of road crossings and positioning of traffic lights.
Much to my amusement, I have been challaned thrice in the last six months for no fault of mine. Once I was driving towards Sukhrali from MG Road. As the light at Iffco Chowk turned green, I moved ahead only to find myself stuck on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. The lights had turned red and I was caught between the service lanes.
I was baffled by the timing of the traffic lights. It doesn't give you enough time to cross a busy point like Iffco Chowk. What added to the irony was the behaviour of the traffic police. One of them took the keys of my bike and asked me to step aside of the road.
I kept on trying to explain how faulty the signals were but they immediately issued me a challan for jumping the red light. Two weeks later, I was caught in a similar situation at the same spot.
Almost four months back, at Khandsa Road in Old Gurgaon, I was flagged down by traffic cops because I took a road where some sewer line was being laid. They pointed to a small board at the corner of the road where it said traffic was not allowed in that direction.
