The first salvo has been fired by the Uttar Pradesh IAS Association, which has demanded security for government officials and action against those responsible for attacking them.

In a meeting of the association’s executive committee held exclusively to discuss rising cases of attacks, its members urged the State government to ensure that officers were able to perform their duties in a fearless manner. It demanded action against those responsible for such incidents to instill a sense of confidence among the officers.

Those who attended the meeting expressed serious concern over beating up of district police chief of Ferozabad Amitabh Thakur by Samajwadi Party MLA Ramvir Singh Yadav and his supporters. Even policemen deployed for the security of the MLA were involved in the incident that took place in the presence of district magistrate Sanyukta Samathdar, they said. The officers felt the incident reflected on the prevailing lawlessness in the State.

A resolution expressing serious concern over the incidents was also passed.
According to UP IAS Association secretary Sanjay Bhus Reddy, the executive committee decided that it would approach the State government to demand adequate security for officers.
