The state government on Monday accepted a proposal to not allow students completing Class 10 from IB and IGCSE schools to apply to junior colleges on the basis of their predicted (provisional) marks.
Hindustan Times had on June 1 reported that the education department (Mumbai region) had forwarded a proposal to the government recommending that students from international boards be admitted to junior colleges only on the basis of their final marks, which are declared in August. Till last year, international board students were given admission based on their predicted (provisional) marks.
“We have seen that students’ final marks were sometimes lower than their predicted marks, which means another student could have gotten admission in their place,” said a government official.
“This would affect some of my classmates who want to do medicine and are planning to switch to the HSC board,” said Avantika Rajani, a student of Dhirubhai Ambani International School, who is appearing for her IGCSE exams. The online admission process to junior colleges will begin once the SSC results are announced later this month.

{{/usCountry}}“We will accommodate these students after their results are out depending on the vacancies in various colleges,” said NB Chavan, assistant director of the education department, Mumbai region.
According to the education department’s estimates, they receive around 500 applications from international school students every year.
