Indian Council for Agricultural Research has recognised Institute of Agricultural Sciences in Banaras Hindu University as State Agriculture University (SAU). This was revealed by Director General of Indian Council for Agricultural Research, Dr Mangla Rai during a lecture on “India's Transformation Through Agricultural Research and Development Efforts’ at KN Udupa Auditorium in BHU on Wednesday.

Dr Mathura Rai, who is also secretary of Department of Agricultural Research Education (DARE) of Government of India, said, various SAUs will be inter-connected through Inter-net to accelerate the pace of agricultural development across the country.
Director of IAS in BHU, Prof Shiv Raj Singh that the funding of IAS-BHU has increased from 25 lakh per annum to one crore. He expressed hope that the funding of IAS-BHU will further increase to around 2.5 crore to 3 crores in near future.
